COURSES: SIXTH QUARTER
DES 235: Graphic Design VIII, 4 credits
Students will create a self-promotional piece or series and participate in a review of portfolio work conducted by professionals from outside the program. They will study basic concepts of exhibit design, design and install the programs final portfolio exhibit.
DES 236: Graphic Design IX, 3 credits
This is a professional development preparatory course to equip students with necessary skills to manage in a studio environment. Students must each seek and acquire individual freelance work from a real client- for fair wage or trade; write a design brief, create a proposal; perform in a professional manner and maintain ethical standards in all realms of the assignment. Everyone is required to develop a personal contract or design proposal aggrement and invoice, in addition to familiarizing themselves with many other necessary business forms. A great deal of discussion will consist of business practices, ethics, issues and even effective workflow and production methods.
DES 260: Portfolio Prep, 3 credits
To develop, design, and prepare a portfolio that represents your individual creativity and demonstrates your skill for seeking employment in the Graphic Design field.
DES 243: Illustration III, 3 credits
The purpose of this course is to explore the use of the human figure in illustration through the practice of various media and examination of the work and process of artists as illustrators.
DES 253: Multimedia III, 4 credits
Creating and maintaining your own Portfolio website is an essential component in finding work as a Graphic Designer. We will examine usablity and navigation, determining your targer audience, best strategies for displaying your work, using your true 'voice', getting someone to view your site, online resumes, biographies, blogs, and finding your dream job. You will need to register a domain for your website and you will need to aquire a hosting agreement.
