COURSES: FOURTH QUARTER
DES 223: Typography III, 3 credits
The goal of this course is to interpret an author's written language into a meaningful visual form using the basic principles of traditional book design and typographic etiquette. The result will be a a case bound book that eloquently expresses the author's words filtered through the student's interpretation. Emphasis will be on creating and meeting typographic design criteria, as well as mastery of all necessary typographic elements in page layout software.
DES 231: Graphic Design IV, 4 credits
The purpose of this course is to explore advertising, art direction and photo direction emphasizing expressive, creative and conceptual problem solving and to continue developing research skills.
DES 232: Graphic Design V, 4 credits
The purpose of this course is to redesign and develop a style guide for an exsisting magazine. Taking into account the audience and exsisting advertising base.
DES 241: Illustration I, 3 credits
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to illustration media and technique through study and practice of various media, and through examination of the work and process of contemporary illustrators.
DES 251: Multimedia I, 3 credits
This class is intended to introduce and familiarize you with the web design process so that you may be comfortable working as part of a web design team. You will gain a basic understanding of information architecture and how the internet works, how to design for the web, how to optimize graphics for fast web viewing, how to build web pages with Dreamweaver, and how to upload files to a server (ftp). This is not a technical class, but there will be a brief overview of basic HTML and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).
