DES 224: Typography IV, 3 credts
This course is an oppurtunity to explore freestyle type compositions using a variety of alternative media to create expressive letterforms. With an introduction to historic as well as contemporary adaptions of handwritten typography, students will be encouraged to explore their own examples of letterforms for assigned projects. Reliance upon digital type will be discouraged as this is an oppurtunity for students to create and manipulate letterforms with traditional, found and experimental materials. Type and typography should not be viewed though a narrow lens and this course is an oppurtunity to contribute to the increasing development of the visual culture of handmade letterforms.

DES 233: Graphic Design VI, 4 credits
The purpose of this class is to explore poster design with both traditional and digital media. Working with two major clients to design and produce a poster and collateral materials for Special Olympics Washington and the Seattle Central Community College Film and Video Program.

DES 234: Graphic Design VII, 4 credits
The design and production of a Corporate Identity system, including a trademark or logotype and applied graphics, to a mix of visual business applications for a Seattle restaurant.

DES 245: Illustration II, 3 credits
The purpose of this course is to explore humor in illustration through the practice of various media and examination of the work and process of contemporary illustrators.

DES 252: Multimedia II, 4 credits
Macromedia Flash is rapidly becoming the standard tool for creating Multimedia applications for the Internet and beyond. This course will focus on the basic tools and principles of Flash to enable you to create linear animation, dynamic websites, and audio/video projects. You will also become familiar with some basic principles of Programming through Macromedia's ActionScript.
