COURSES: FIRST QUARTER
DES 101: Drawing I, 3 credits
Basic principles of observing, preceiving and drawing through the study of one,two, and three point perspective and drawing from plan views. Projects in perspective drawing and still-life drawing.
DES 110: History of Graphic Design, 2 credits
The purpose of this course is to provide the students with an understanding of the evolution of graphic design including pivotal individuals, from two historical points of view- relationships within their time and relationships preceding and following their time.
DES 131: Graphic Design I, 4 credits
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the terminology, process and social context of graphic design. Students will utilize traditional image making techniques and learn the language of graphic design for building communication and presentation skills.
DES 145: Graphic Productions I, 3 credits
This course is the first part of the Adobe CS3 Series. Adobe Illustrator is a vector based graphics program capable of creating illustrations and type effects. As a designer you will be asked to create logos, advertisements, and other illustrations using Adobe Illustrator.
NME 110: New Media I, 6 credits
This is the first part of a three quarter coordinated studies class designed specifically for students in Commercial Photography, Graphic Design and Publishing Arts to meet the general education components of their respective programs.
The primary objective of the course is for students to gain knowledge and skills in different forms of mass media, human relations, communications, and computers. This is done in an interdisciplinary setting. General education content is presented in such a way that it is relevant and integral to the various disciplines represented. Additional objectives of New Media are to develop skills that form the basis for future career work in these disciplines- all of which relate to general media- and to begin to establish professional contacts with other individuals in related fields. This course is project-based. It is team-taught and offers students in the three interconnected disciplines an oppurtunity to network and share their skills and talents in a unique learning environment.
