ADMISSION PROCEDURE

APPLY: ADMISSION PROCEDURES
All prospective students to the Graphic Design Program at Seattle Central Community College will follow the steps listed below for entry into the program and placement on the approval list.

Step 1: Contact the Admission Office, BE 1107 (206.587.5450) to recieve information relative to admission and enrollment procedures to the college including testing, procurence of transcripts, etc.

Step 2: Contact the Division Office, BE 5166 (206.587.3830) to arrange attendance at an information session. Following attending an information session, arrange an appointment with the division counselor who will assess your academic eligibility (interpret test scores, review transcripts) for the program.

Step 3: You will be required to submit a portfolio of artwork to be evaluated by the faculty of the program. Portfolio reviews are conducted three times a year during the sixth week of Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters. The portfolio will be submitted to the Divison Office, BE 5166, and will include the following:

A. Submit a typed response to the following questions:

1. Why do you want to be a Graphic Designer?
2. Who is someone that has influenced your views on Graphic Design?
3. Where do you see yourself in three years?

B. A minimum of five and a maximum of ten works of art. An ideal portfolio would include examples of Graphic Design such as typography, posters, advertising design, drawings, photography, paintings, computer illustrations, etc. A variety of subject matter and mediums is most desirable. If you cannot submit an example of all of the above, submit the best examples of art work you have done in the last three years. Computer generated artwork is acceptable for no more than half of the work you submit. Slides and photos are acceptable, but originals are preferred. The portfolio does not have to be expensive; a black portfolio with string ties containing your work is good enough. THE QUALITY OF YOUR WORK WILL SPEAK FOR ITSELF. You will be evaluated on the presentation of your work. The idea is to show examples of your demonstrated artistic talent. Put your name on the outside of your portfolio.

Step 4: You may pick up your portfolio the eighth week of the quarter. Notification of portfolio approval/non approval will be in your portfolio. Portfolios not picked up by the end of the quarter in which they were submitted will be DISCARDED.

A. If your portfolio is accepted and you have met academic eligibility requirements (have met with the counselor who has determined academic eligibility) you will be placed on the approval list and invited to an orientation at the end of Spring Quarter. Students will be allowed to register in the order of the date they were put on the approval list.

B. If not accepted: You may resubmit your portfolio at the next scheduled evaluation or if you need clarification regarding your rejected portfolio you may attend a follow up meeting with the Graphic Design faculty. Contact the Division Office, BE 5166 (206.587.3830).
